First HoldCo shares reach 52-week high after N323bn transaction

FBN Holdings Plc (First HoldCo) shares surged to a 52-week high this week following a massive ₦323 billion transaction that shook up investor sentiment on the Nigerian Exchange.

The transaction — reportedly involving a strategic investor acquiring a significant stake in the company — pushed the stock price to its highest level in a year, sparking a wave of bullish interest from institutional and retail investors alike.

Market analysts believe this deal signals strong confidence in First HoldCo’s restructuring strategy and growth potential in Nigeria’s financial services sector.

“A transaction of this magnitude typically reflects long-term confidence,” said Bolaji Akinwale, a Lagos-based capital market analyst. “We expect the positive momentum to continue if the company delivers on its earnings and digital transformation goals.”

The ₦323bn stake acquisition is one of the largest single transactions in Nigeria’s banking and investment space this year, further boosting liquidity and sentiment on the exchange.

First HoldCo, the parent company of First Bank of Nigeria, has been repositioning itself with a focus on digital banking, asset management, and insurance, expanding its revenue sources beyond traditional banking operations.

Investors will be closely watching the company’s next quarterly earnings report and any official announcement regarding the identity of the new investor and their strategic intent.

The Nigerian Exchange All-Share Index also posted gains on the back of this news, with bank stocks leading the rally.
