First Lady Remi Tinubu Donates ₦1 Billion to Victims of Benue Massacre

In a heartfelt show of solidarity, Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Tuesday announced a ₦1 billion donation from the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) to assist families affected by the tragic attack on the Yelewata community in Benue State.

The First Lady made this announcement during a condolence visit to the Benue State Government House, where she met with Governor Hyacinth Alia and other state officials. The visit followed the June massacre in Yelewata, which left over 100 people dead in a suspected herders’ attack that has since sparked national outrage.

According to Mrs. Tinubu, the donation is part of the Renewed Hope Initiative’s commitment to providing urgent relief and long-term rehabilitation to internally displaced persons (IDPs), especially women and children, who are often the worst affected in such crises.

“We cannot bring back the lives lost, but we can ease the pain of those left behind,” she said. “This is not just a donation — it is a message that the victims are not forgotten.”

The ₦1 billion support package will go toward food relief, shelter, healthcare, and livelihood rebuilding programs, targeting displaced families and widows who have been rendered homeless and traumatized.

Governor Alia expressed his appreciation to the First Lady for what he described as a “timely intervention” and called for stronger federal response to the persistent insecurity plaguing farming communities in the state.
