FG Restates Commitment to Improved Access to Electricity Nationwide

Abuja, Nigeria – The Federal Government has reaffirmed its dedication to enhancing access to reliable and affordable electricity for all Nigerians, emphasizing that energy access remains a critical component of national development.

Speaking at a recent energy stakeholders’ forum in Abuja, the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, highlighted ongoing initiatives under the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI) and the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) aimed at boosting power generation, transmission, and distribution across urban and rural communities.

“We are focused on building a sustainable energy sector that meets the demands of our growing population while ensuring inclusivity. No community, no matter how remote, will be left behind,” Adelabu stated.

The government reiterated its support for public-private partnerships to fast-track mini-grid projects, solar home systems, and grid expansions. These efforts are expected to improve the nation’s current electrification rate and reduce reliance on alternative energy sources like generators.

Industry analysts believe that while the government’s renewed commitment is commendable, execution and transparency will be key in bridging Nigeria’s electricity gap, which still leaves over 85 million people without access to power.
