We’ve been ruled by people without values – Sanusi

Former Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has once again spoken out on the state of leadership in Nigeria, saying the country has for years been governed by individuals who lack strong values and a vision for national progress.

Speaking during a recent public event, Sanusi lamented the deep moral and ethical decay within the ranks of Nigeria’s leadership. He emphasized that many of the country’s challenges — from economic instability to insecurity and corruption — stem from a fundamental absence of value-driven leadership.

“We’ve been ruled by people without values. They don’t understand what it means to serve, and many pursue personal gain at the expense of the nation’s wellbeing,” Sanusi stated.

He called for a shift in leadership culture, stressing the need for integrity, accountability, and empathy from those in power. According to him, true national development cannot be achieved unless those leading the country are driven by principles rather than self-interest.

Sanusi, who is also a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has remained a vocal critic of bad governance, often urging Nigerians to demand more from their leaders and participate actively in shaping the future of the country.
