Fuji music legend, Otunba Wasiu Ayinde Adesanya, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate (KWAM 1), has instituted a legal action at the Ogun State High Court sitting in Ijebu-Ode, seeking to stop the selection and installation of a new Awujale of Ijebuland.
According to reports, the veteran musician filed the suit following the rejection of his claim to the revered throne by the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, one of the recognized ruling houses in Ijebuland.
In the suit, K1 De Ultimate is asking the court to grant an interim injunction restraining the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, alongside five other respondents, from proceeding with any process related to the selection, approval, or installation of a new Awujale pending the determination of the case.
The lawsuit is said to challenge the legitimacy of the ongoing succession process, with the claimant insisting that due traditional procedures were not properly followed in considering eligible candidates to the throne.
The Awujale of Ijebuland stool is one of the most respected traditional institutions in Yorubaland, and developments surrounding its succession have continued to attract public interest across the country.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Ogun State Government nor the Fusengbuwa Ruling House has issued an official statement in response to the lawsuit.
The court is expected to fix a date for the hearing of the application for injunction, a decision that may temporarily determine the next steps
