Buhari served himself, not Nigeria – Sowore

Human rights activist and politician, Omoyele Sowore, has openly criticized the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, stating that his time in office was marked by selfishness and neglect of the Nigerian people.
Reacting to the nationwide reactions that trailed Buhari’s recent death, Sowore said there was no reason to mourn a man who prioritized personal and family interests above national progress.
“He served himself, his family, and his cronies. Nigeria was never his priority,” Sowore said in a video message shared on his social media platforms. “From mass killings to economic collapse and mass suffering, Buhari left the country worse than he met it.”
He pointed out the irony that Buhari enjoyed life till old age without facing legal consequences for what he described as “numerous human rights abuses and crimes committed under his regime.”
Sowore also criticized the elite and political class for praising Buhari in death, accusing them of being complicit in covering up his failures and pretending he was a national hero.
“Buhari’s burial has become another opportunity for lies and political theatre. The people are still suffering. His legacy is poverty, pain, and oppression,” he said.
Sowore reaffirmed his commitment to justice and truth, stating that real national healing can only begin when those who destroy the country are held accountable.
