Lagos, Nigeria – November 13, 2025 – The Lagos State Government has announced that an 8-month rehabilitation project on the busy Lekki–Ajah corridor will commence on Saturday, November 15, 2025.
The project, overseen by the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, aims to improve road conditions, enhance safety, and reduce traffic congestion along one of Lagos’ most heavily trafficked routes.
Two-Phase Rehabilitation Plan
The roadworks will be executed in two phases:
• Phase 1: From Lekki First Toll Gate to Lekki Second Toll Gate, divided into seven sections. One lane will remain open at all times while work is carried out on the other.
• Phase 2: From Lekki Second Toll Gate to the Ajah under-bridge, divided into four sections. Traffic from Ajah to Lekki will be diverted to one lane while rehabilitation proceeds on the other.
Traffic Management Measures
The Lagos State Government has assured commuters that traffic will be maintained toward Ajah, but inward traffic may face diversions. Motorists are advised to plan their journeys accordingly, obey diversion signs, and allow extra travel time.
Project Duration
The rehabilitation is expected to last eight months, concluding on July 15, 2026, and is part of the state’s ongoing effort to improve transport infrastructure and ease congestion along key corridors.
Commuter Advisory
Motorists traveling along the Lekki–Ajah corridor are encouraged to: Leave home earlier to avoid peak-hour congestion.
• Follow official diversion routes and traffic signs.
• Consider alternative routes where possible.
The state government emphasizes that the temporary inconvenience will be outweighed by long-term benefits, including smoother, safer, and more efficient travel along the corridor.
