Former National Treasurer of the Labour Party, Oluchi Oparah, has stated that the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, did not use party funds for his election campaign.
Oparah, who served during the period of the last general election, clarified that Obi personally financed his campaign activities, covering travel, logistics, and other expenses from his own resources.
She explained that contrary to speculations, campaign donations and support funds were managed separately by Obi’s team, not the party treasury. According to her, the party leadership was aware of this arrangement and there were no instances of campaign-related withdrawals from Labour Party accounts for Obi.
Oparah noted that her statement was necessary to correct false narratives and to protect the integrity of both the candidate and the party ahead of future elections.
