2027: ADC slams APC over early ‘campaigns’ for Tinubu

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) over what it described as “premature and unlawful campaigns” in favor of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a press statement released on Wednesday, the ADC accused the ruling party of exploiting public events and government platforms to subtly promote Tinubu’s second-term ambition — a move the opposition party says undermines Nigeria’s electoral laws and distracts from the country’s pressing socio-economic challenges.

“It is unfortunate that while Nigerians are groaning under the weight of harsh economic realities, the APC is more focused on securing another term for President Tinubu than addressing the issues affecting the people,” the statement read.

The ADC alleged that certain ministers, governors, and top APC figures have begun making strategic appearances and statements that suggest a coordinated campaign effort, barely two years into the current administration’s tenure.

The party further urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to issue warnings and ensure compliance with electoral guidelines, which prohibit early campaigning until a designated period.

“The 2027 elections are still a long way off. What Nigerians need now is good governance, not political propaganda parading as governance,” the ADC added.

This development adds to the growing political tension as opposition parties increasingly accuse the APC of neglecting governance in favor of political survival and image management.

As of press time, the APC has not issued an official response to the allegations.
