Meet Zhou Yahui, the Chinese billionaire who owns OPay, one of Nigeria’s most popular online banks and fintech platforms.

Zhou Yahui, born in February 1977, is a Chinese billionaire entrepreneur and the founder of OPay, a leading fintech platform in Nigeria. He is also the chairman and CEO of Opera Software, the parent company of OPay. His estimated net worth is approximately US$2.2 billion.

Zhou’s entrepreneurial journey began in 1999 when he started a website called Vulcan Net, funded by Tsinghua University. Vulcan Net was dedicated to uploading animations created by local individuals, particularly students from the university. However, due to unprofitability, Zhou and Tsinghua University decided to close Vulcan Net in 2004.

Afterward, Zhou continued his career in the tech industry, eventually founding Kunlun Tech Co Ltd in 2008, which became one of China’s largest web game developers. He later expanded his ventures internationally, leading to the establishment of OPay in Nigeria
